Wood Duck nest boxes inspection...
Wood Duck Nest Boxes at Caw Caw, March 11, 2026
On a very unseasonably warm and humid morning, Kristina, Caroline, and I visited the Wood Duck Nest Boxes at Caw Caw.
We now have a total of ten Wood Duck Nest boxes for the 2026 season. While still a bit early in the season to find eggs, we inspected each nest box to check for wasp nests, structural damage, and any signs of nesting attempts.
We did discover a beautifully created songbird nest, which we left in place and will monitor on our next visit. Besides spotting a couple of small ribbon snakes on the pathway to two of the nests, it was a quiet morning as far as wildlife was concerned.
Because many of these boxes have recently been erected, we realize it may take a while for the hens to utilize these boxes. We will be conducting another box inspection at the end of March, at which time we are looking forward to having some indication of nesting and hopefully some eggs.
