Foraging Native Plants for Food & Medicine...

Foraging Native Plants for Food & Medicine...

For our February Think & Drink April Punslan introduced us to the concept of foraging native and naturalized plants for food and medicine. She discussed the four pillars of foraging. Unfortunately we didn’t record this session, but April has a Youtube channel with several great videos, if you want to watch her. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/@YaholaHerbalSchool/videos

For the Walk & Talk portion of our program, April led us on a walk in Riverland Terrace. We started at Medway Park and learned several herb “weeds” there and then walked to find other great plants. The plants she specifically mentioned on this walk were Chickweed, Henbit, Magnolia, Camphor, Hairy bittercress (Cardamine hirsuta), Cleavers, Yaupon, and Spanish moss. It was a fun walk on a cold morning with some of our fabulous tribe!

I can’t find cleavers near my house, so I harvested a lot and made cleaver juice ice cubes to put into my smoothies!
