5th Loggerhead Turtle Nest on Isle of Palms '25...
Thursday, 5/29, the fifth loggerhead turtle nest on Isle of Palms was found by CMNA member, Laura Lovins, and her team mate Holly Barron.
The turtle was relatively small - her tracks measured 26 inches. The average width of a loggerhead turtle's tracks are 2.5 ft to 4 feet.
This young lady laid 124 eggs. The nest was up against an escarpment on the beach, which has been created by erosion. The eggs were carefully removed and moved to a more suitable spot further South on the IOP beach where there are natural dunes, and where it will be well above a high tide line.
Turtle nesting season here in SC started May 1st and will go until the middle of August.
