Birds of Prey Presentation to Williams Elementary School...
On March 4, the Coastal Master Naturalist Association proudly sponsored a Birds of Prey program at Williams Memorial Elementary School in Dorchester District 4. Sixty-nine first graders had the exciting opportunity to witness the majesty of raptors up close, engaging with a Peregrine Falcon, Spectacled Owl, and Harris’s Hawk.
The interactive presentation introduced students to key concepts such as nocturnal behaviors, hunting techniques, native vs non-native, and the importance of bird conservation. Students were able to observe these incredible birds in flight and learn about their unique adaptations that help them thrive in the wild.
CMNA President Colin Hocking welcomed the students and shared insights about his role as a naturalist, highlighting his volunteer work with Bald Eagles at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Initiatives like this are made possible by the generous donations of our members, whose support helps bring environmental education to schools and communities across the Lowcountry. Through programs like this, CMNA continues its mission to foster environmental education and stewardship.
